It’s the middle of the night for Bayern: 2-2 against Freiburg. And now Xabi Alonso can go to +10

The goals from Tel and Musiala initially offset Gunter’s goal, but it wasn’t enough. Tuchel’s boys suffer the final mockery of Holer and abandon, perhaps definitively, the title fight

It’s always controversial. It’s always a crisis. Bayern Munich, who will face Lazio in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday after losing the first leg 1-0, drew 2-2 at Freiburg. This is the fourth away game in a row, including the one in Rome, without a win for the Bavarians. Günter’s goal in the 12th minute was followed by goals from Tel in the 35th minute and Musiala in the 75th minute. However, Tuchel’s team was unable to hold on to their lead as Höler’s goal reached them in the 87th minute. But in Munich they will also have to reflect on some of Tuchel’s choices: the 18-year-old Tel, already making his seventh goal of the season, was making his debut from the first minute. And only for the absences of Sané, Musiala and Gnabry. And he and Musiala, the two youngest, are trying to shake things up. And so Leverkusen can now escape at +10.

the race

Tuchel, without Gnabry, Coman and Sané, relies on the very young Musiala (21 years old) and Tel (18), as well as the much more experienced Müller to act as a link between the midfield and Kane. However, the Bavarians appear slow and passive and suffer the liveliness of the home team. Freiburg’s lead, in the 12th minute, is illustrative: the action starts from an apparently harmless lateral foul in mid-field. The ball goes from right to left, without Bayern being able to apply pressure. Grifo crosses freely, Sallai tries first with his head (save by Neuer) and then with an overhead kick (crossbar). The defense, however, fails to clear and Günter, from Höfler’s tower, beats Neuer with a volley. Bayern has no ideas and often lends itself to Freiburg’s counterattack, as when in the 22nd minute Grifo came close to making it 2-0 with a shot that went just wide. Bayern’s equalizer was almost accidental, with an individual play by Tel: the Frenchman, after a poorly defended corner by Freiburg, managed to beat Grifo and unload a shot into the far corner.

the recovery

However, not even the goal woke up Bayern who continued to seem too flat and passive. Kane is seen little (dangerous with a header from a corner), but otherwise the Bavarians cling to the individual play of the youngest, perhaps the last to still have a shred of enthusiasm. In the 75th minute Musiala overcame three opponents and found the far corner. The internet is magic. However, Freiburg remains in the game and finds a deserved equalizer in the 87th minute: Gregoritsch is elegant to serve Höler who volleys past an innocent Neuer. This is the last action of the match. And perhaps the final whistle also brings the curtain down on the championship: Bayern is now -7 behind first-place Leverkusen, who however still have to play. The distance is wide. And it continues to increase.
