The expectations placed by the general public on European champions are not always realistic. Both women won in Kuortane, but the fans were left with something to worry about.

– I expected more From Wilma Murro and From Reetta Hurskeesaid someone who came from Tampere to watch the Kuortanene athletics championships Paavo Nieminen.

– In these amazing conditions, their results were also disappointing for me. Of course, a win is always a win, added Nieminen, who flew to South Ostrobothnia Mikko Virtanen.

The European champions may even have unrealistic expectations.

On Saturday, Murto won the women’s pole vault with a salon-worthy result of 461.

– Hunger grows when you eat. Once the audience has seen a 480 over, they want more. There is no problem at an altitude of 461, Murto commented.

A somewhat similar taste was on Tuesday in Turku. Murto scored the second best outdoor track result of his career, 475, and won the Paavo Nurmi Games, which is as hard as Napsu’s event in Kuortanee.

– I personally try to remember that 475 is always a tough result. Is that for a five meter woman Sandi Morris too good result. I know what you can achieve with a score of 475 in value competitions, said Salon Vilpas, who set his record of 485 in the EC finals in Bavaria last summer.

Murto effortlessly crossed the height of 461 in South Ostrobothnia on Saturday, until he made three unsuccessful attempts from the height of 474.

– 461 goes easily. In 474, you have to tighten the screw and the margins of error are very small. It can be seen in the fact that the bar rattles when it comes down.

Hurske rattled

In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Hurske withstood the pressure of the pre-favorite and swept to victory with a result of 12.85. The time is not suitable for statistics, because the tailwind was 2.2 meters per second, i.e. 0.2 units too much.

– It’s probably the same with me, that I would hope that every run would be a little better than the previous one. But I’m old enough to realize that it’s not possible every time, Hurske comments.

A supporter of the Tampere Ilves ice hockey team clocked a new SE of 12.70 on June 7, 2023 in Jyväskylä.

– In Finland, we look at the result a little too much. More people go to the race to win – let this Kuortane competition be like that.

Hurske reminded that in previous years the results of Kuortanene and Tuesday’s Paavo Nurmi Games (12.92) would have been of high quality.

– Such runs were made in previous seasons when I was in good shape. It’s nice that Kuortane won with a dirty performance

The Tampere resident rattled fences during the trip.

– I don’t know if I came too close to the fences or if my foot didn’t lift. But overall I’m quite satisfied. The leg was quite different from the one in Turku. It was a cheerful mood now.

Reetta Hurske won the 100-meter hurdles with a result of 12.85. The tailwind was 2.2 meters per second. The limit of a statistically valid result is two meters per second. Jussi Saarinen
