MIt’s my fault (on Netflix) is the perfect comedy to start the year lightly. The film by Umberto Carteni (with Antonio Folletto, Laura Adriani, Vincenzo Nemolato and a newborn who never stops crying) moves through the streets of Naples, between romance and scams, double identities, unexpected events and tasty dishes.

Ilary Blasi returns to Netflix with a TV series all about herself

Fun and romance mix to create moments of light-heartedness: It’s not my fault it’s one of those films capable of making you think good mood and project into the dreamdespite the fact that they deal with topics well rooted in everyday life. The characters of Vito, Marina and Antonello are loveddespite the thousand defects and problems, and we would like them as neighbors.

It’s not my fault: the plot of the Netflix film

Naples. Vito (Antonio Folletto), a single father who risks not having sole custody of his son Napoleonand his swindler brother Antonello (Vincenzo Nemolato), live with hardship in the historic building built by their grandfather. Tenants are leaving apartments due to problems with cockroaches, sewage and leaks. The two are the only ones to occupy the family apartment with the newborn baby in tow.

Vito works in a restaurant part-time, but for social services it is not enough. And that’s not all: the court asks Antonello for a month to repay 50 thousand euros of debts owed to the De Leonardi company, otherwise the house ends up at auction. Vito and Antonello risk losing the only thing they have. Together they then decide to organize a plan to recover that money.

Their target is Marina (Laura Adriani), the architect who manages the De Leonardi Foundation and is designing with her colleague and boyfriend Federico a luxury hotel right on the site of the building where the penniless brothers live. Vito does everything to meet her, and to make her believe he is Carlo, the manager of a non-profit organization: he hopes to be able to get her to make a colossal donation.

Who is Marina, played by Laura Adriani

The undertaking is not simple. The woman, from a wealthy family, is a “ninja with a big dick”. Vito on the other hand is the opposite. The two meet first time in an elevator. Too bad she’s claustrophobic: just as Vito/Carlo starts to hatch his plan, Marina has a panic attack. Second attempt: Carlo signs up for yoga lessons in the same gym as Marina, but the woman suspects: «We have never met and now we see each other twice in the space of a few days. Aren’t you a stalker?”

Carlo manages to calm her down and accompanies her home on his scooter and then in the restaurant where he works. At the stove Marina seems to soften: while cooking, he remembers the relationship with his mother, who passed away two years earlier. Carlo thus discovers the woman’s weak point. He involves her in a (fake) charity lunch that he organizes together with his brother. Marina completely falls for the two’s plan, but in the meantime Carlo has discovered who the “ninja with the big dick” really is and the woman he fell in love with.

The cast of It’s not my fault: Antonio Folletto is Vito/Carlo

Antonio Folletto is Vito who, with Marina, passes himself off as Carlo. He is a single father who was abandoned by his Norwegian partner after the birth of little Napoleon. The newborn is somewhat of the mascot of the film and the engine that makes the pawns move: to obtain custody exclusive to the childand don’t lose your home, Vito has to get the money from Marina. Vito is penniless and, after the end of the relationship with Napoleon’s mother, his heart did not open to anyone. Until he meets Marina.

She is a woman from a very different social background than him, used to luxury restaurants and fashionable clothes but, deep down, she is just as messed up as him. The meeting with Vito will make her discover lightness and the beauty of life’s unpredictability. As grandfather said to Vito: “The most beautiful things in life are the unexpected.” Here you are: Vito and Marina are two unexpected people who meet and create sparks.
