The band WC Experience is still on stage every week with the same enthusiasm as 36 years ago. Omroep Brabant delves into the story behind the success of the band with a new documentary. “We are experiencing beautiful things every week. And that we can still do that, isn’t that worth gold?” Singer Patrick Marcellissen.
The party band saw the light of day in Raamsdonskveer 36 years ago. WC Experience scored hits like ‘Bakkes Oep Ne Kaai’, ‘Pancake in my underpants’ and ‘I smoke here?’. The band is best known for their crazy tests on famous tunes. And all of his ‘fèrs’, the dialect of Raamsdonksveer. It wasn’t just a party for the band. Former bass player Peter Jansen died last year.

Did you ever expect to sustain this 36 years?
“No dude, really not! As a 17-year-old at the first performance, I thought I wanted to keep doing this for the rest of my life. But that we were still on stage every week 35 years later, I never dared to dream. It is still a party.”
How have you changed over the years?
“We have grown up. In the early years it was long live De Lol, lots of beer, lots of party. Now we drive to performances ourselves, drink a 0.0 and the next morning as a father are ready for the children. We are more serious but the pleasure is still there.”

What is the secret of the WC Experience?
“The fun, that’s it. We make music that people can laugh about and sing along. The Brabant dialect also connects. Our lyrics are sometimes so crazy, that people immediately recognize them and master them. And on stage? Then we and the audience are one big group. You really feel that.”
Suppose you can keep one number for eternity, which would be that?
“Then I doubt between ‘Bakkes Oep Ne Kaai’ or ‘May I smoke here’. ‘Bakkes oep ne quaai’ makes no sense and therefore everywhere: pure toilet experience. But ‘may I smoke here’ is a blast that everyone knows, even if they don’t know us. That song has really achieved his goal.”

What’s on you rider (a list of requirements when they will perform)?
“That is not all that rock ‘n roll. A crate of beer, some fresh and 0.0. And believe me: after a performance half is still there. We are no longer often stove. We want to keep this up, so we are wise to deal with it.”
You can exchange for one day with another band, which is that?
“Rowwen Hèze. No doubt. Those lyrics, that stratification, Jacques Poels is really a hero. He is an artist. They may not be super special, but in terms of feeling and content … hats.”
What is the best compliment ever of a fan?
“After our first theater tour a young fan came to me, shy, and said,” I enjoyed it. Just as fun as the Zwarte Cross. ” That came in, because it shows that we can touch people, whether it is in a party tent or in the theater. “
Omroep Brabant broadcasts the documentary ‘Wai Zen de WC Experience’ on Sunday 13 April at 11.20 am and 3.40 pm. The birthday itself celebrates the band itself on April 12 in Poppodium 013 in Tilburg.
In the podcast Hee Gaode Mee Mee, Patrick Marcellissen tells more about the WC Experience.
