The ski world is once again concerned: after a severe fall, the Italian ski racer Matteo Franzoso had to be put into the artificial coma.
The Italian speed specialist Matteo Franzoso fell heavily during a training run in La Parva, Chilean. The 25-year-old ski racer suffered a skull trauma and had to be taken to a hospital in Santiago de Chile by helicopter. There he was transferred to the artificial coma for further examination.
The Italian national team is currently preparing for the new season in La Parva. The accident occurred during a training session. Medical care began on site: rescue workers supplied Franzoso on the slopes before it was flown out.
The Italian Ski Association FISI said in an official statement in close contact with the treating doctors in Chile. “The FISI medical commission is in constant contact with the Chilean paramedics that observe the situation. Updates to the state of the young Italian athletes will follow,” says the message.
Franzoso is considered a specialist in the speed disciplines departure and Super-G, previously contested 17 World Cup races, but has not yet been able to place itself in the top field. His best result is a 28th place at the Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2023.
