The fear of European sanctions has moved Israel to admit more humanitarian aid in Gaza this weekend. That is what Minister of Energy Eli Cohen said on Sunday on the Israeli radio, reports The Times of Israel.

According to Cohen, Hamas is out to “end up in a situation in which measures are being taken against Israel, so that the war comes to an end and the [Hamas] continues to exist ”. By partially eliminating the blockade for much needed humanitarian aid, Cohen believes, Israel prevents Hamas’ falling in the ‘fall’.

Earlier this month, the 27 Member States of the European Union did not reach unanimous agreement on sanctions against Israel. A small group of countries stopped it, but the EU urged Israel to allow more humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The last time that the European Union seriously thought about sanctions, Israel set up the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) with American support. That organization has set up humanitarian aid in Gaza in such a way that hunger has become a means to purify the enclave ethnically, and has made eating food a life -threatening job for Palestinians.

Unrest in Israeli coalition

In recent weeks there have been more and more images from Gaza of Uitgegergelde people, including small children. Israel claims-wrongly-that those photos are fake, and part of Hamas propaganda. Tuesday stated the Israeli army That there is no “real hunger crisis” in Gaza. That is a lie that is massively disproved by independent aid organizations and news media.

In the coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, there is now great dissatisfaction with the decision to feed the Palestinian population. The extreme right-wing minister ITAMAR BEN-GVIR of National Security wrote on Saturday evening on X That Israel “surrenders to a misleading Hamas campaign.” Ben-Gvir says that a private group has made the decision without him, “not to disturb his Sabbath.” The minister is furious about that decision: “I will challenge this decision, it makes no sense and damages our soldiers.”
