An Israeli fashion chain has started a campaign against hunger in the Gaza Strip. Under the motto “Resistance to Hunger” in English, Arabic and Hebrew, black -dressed Israeli cooks and a cook were seen against a black background on social media, who held empty pots in their hands. It is the first protest of this kind by an Israeli company.

The fashion chain comme Il Faut, known in Israel, wrote on her website: “In a short trip removal from us, people are hungry.” The urgent need was “in the name of all those who cannot scream”. It also said: “We are calling to stop starving in Gaza – which also includes the hostages.”

Fashion as a political statement

The head of the chain, Romi Kaminer Goldfainer, told the “Jerusalem Post”: “We do clothes for women and we believe that fashion is also a political cause – like eating, like everything in culture.” There was encouragement on Instagram, but also a lot of sharp criticism of the initiative. “The only ones who are hungry in Gaza are our hostages,” said several reactions.

Debate about famine report

The IPC initiative recognized worldwide as an authority for nutritional security had explained a famine for the city of Gaza in the north and some neighboring towns last month. Israel’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu described the report as “smooth lie”.

According to Israeli representation, the IPC assessment is based on false information from the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas, which also controlls the health authority in Gaza. The responsible cogat authority recently reported around 300 trucks with food aid daily, which enter the contested coastal strips.
