Israel advances to Nations League A thanks to last-minute goal

The Israeli national soccer team has managed promotion to League A of the Nations League with a last-minute goal.

Coach Alon Hazan’s team beat Albania 2-1 (0-0) in Tel Aviv on Saturday night and, with eight points from four games, can no longer be relegated from first place in Group B2.

After a goalless first half, Shon Weissman (46′) gave the hosts the lead a few seconds after the break. Myrto Uzuni (88′) initially equalized for Albania, Tai Baribo (90’+2′) secured Israel’s promotion shortly before the final whistle.

In Group 2, all teams play only four instead of six games due to the exclusion of the Russian national team. Due to the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia is currently banned from participating in UEFA competitions and has been automatically relegated.
