Iserbyt takes bronze, van der Poel new world champion

Michael Vanthourenhout’s season has already been successful with the Belgian and European jersey, nevertheless he wants to do everything he can to win that third jersey as well. The competition is fierce with top favorites Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. The latter enters the field as the best Belgian. Iserbyt gets away reasonably well in sixth place, Vanthourenhout is eighth and Kuypers thirteenth.

Immediately a gap

After barely one round, the main prize has already started flying, van Aert and van der Poel blow away from the rest with two. the battle for bronze erupts among the pursuers. Battle for the bronze

The pace is immensely high. In the third round, Kuypers and Vanthourenhout take a small lead over a large group of pursuers. The two West Flemish people work together in search of a bronze medal. Their lead slowly expands to fifteen seconds.

Vanthourenhout can’t keep it up

After having driven together for almost half a race, Michael Vanthourenhout now takes off. The Belgian and European champion dominates in the first half of the race. Three laps before the end, Iserbyt and van der Haar drive together towards Kuypers. The two also go on and about Vanthourenhout. Is it the man from Kuurne who takes the bronze? Iserbyt drives further away from the duo Kuypers – Vanthourenhout together with van der Haar. The young Gerben Kuypers from Nieuwpoort has already completed a fantastic race. One lap from the end, Iserbyt and van der Haar are even within fifteen seconds of the duo in the lead. We get a battle on different fronts with three duos: one for gold, one for bronze and one for the last place in the top 5.

After a thrilling final lap, van der Poel takes the lead. Iserbyt is in third place. Vanthourenhout is fifth and Kuypers sixth.
