Now that Renze Klamer has resigned from TV flop RTL Tonight, there seems to be only one way out for perhaps the greatest talk show talent in the Netherlands: the NPO. But do they have room there?
Renze Klamer was done with the public broadcaster when his talk show De Vooravond was abruptly taken off the air, but exactly the same thing happened to him at RTL. He had to give up his talk show of the same name Renze to become one of the interchangeable faces of the ultimately flopped RTL Tonight. What should happen next?
Renze’s grumbling
TV authority Tina Nijkamp sympathizes with Renze. “He didn’t seem comfortable in the show from the start. He already seemed unhappy and now he has thrown in the towel. It could also be that Peter van der Vorst was done with Renze’s grumbling, I immediately believe that, because don’t think that Renze let everything go.”
She continues in the podcast Tina’s TV Update: “For Renze it means much more than for RTL Tonight, because his future at RTL now seems to be over. Although the spokespersons – I also received messages about this – are still saying with all their might: ‘Listen, we are looking at other things for Renze.’”
Future music
Renze is still under contract with RTL for years to come. “Something else will come and then you have to think of the presentation of a program like Destination
She continues: “I don’t think that is possible anymore at RTL, so Renze will hope for a spot at the NPO, but that is not that easy. Roos Moggré has been hired at Pauw & De Wit and replacing Eva in the summer is also difficult, because Woeste Grond gets season after season.”
Back to EO?
Woeste Grond is the summer replacement for Eva. “Two more seasons have now been ordered, which is a novelty, namely seasons five and six. This means that that slot is also full for the time being, because if Eva is not there, there is always Woeste Grond and Een Huis Vol or some such kind of program. Then you don’t have much left.”
It is true that the EO has lost its most important interviewer: Tijs van den Brink. “But it remains to be seen whether Renze wants to return to the EO. And they also have no talk show, except Dit is de Week…”
