Is the postcard campaign a last resort for GP practice Boerhaavewijk?

Thousands of Haarlemmers may soon be without a doctor in the Boerhaavewijk for years. The ZOED Boerhaavewijk must leave its current location in September. But where should the Healthcare Providers Under One Roof (ZOED) go? D66 and ChristenUnie will ask questions about this in a council committee next Thursday. General practitioner Vincent Puite has started a postcard campaign to keep pressure on the political kettle.

The ZOED Boerhaavewijk has about 7,500 patients. There is a risk that they will soon be without a regular GP for a few years. The practice where general practitioner Vincent Puite has his practice also houses a pharmacy and a physiotherapist. It is not a chic accommodation on the Louis Pasteurstraat. The health center has been in a number of connected portakabins since 2017.

Saint Jacob

New homes are currently being built around that spot. And because of a new construction project by Elan Wonen, the portakabins have to go in September. But no alternative location is available yet. It will eventually come: Opposite the Spaarne Gasthuis, the Sint Jacob Foundation is building a new complex with more than 250 care homes. There is also room for the ZOED. But it may take until at least the end of 2025 before GP Puite can set up his practice there.

In the meantime, new homes and therefore new patients are only being added. The GP has therefore started a postcard campaign to continue to exert pressure on local politics. On Thursday, February 16, the issue will be discussed in the Board committee of the Haarlem city council.

D66 and ChristenUnie have already prepared the questions for the mayor and aldermen. Both parties want to know whether the municipality is committed to a temporary solution. According to D66, this can be found at the Haarlem College on the Broekweg, not far from the ZOED Boerhaavewijk. According to D66, the school has a lot of space left. That space could then be temporarily assigned to the care center.

Meanwhile, GP Puite calls on his patients to continue to send postcards to responsible alderman Floor Roduner (PvdA). They can be picked up at ZOED Boerhaavewijk on Louis Pasteurstraat and ZOED Schalkwijk on Italylaan.
