The name Christian Horner continues to spill through the Formula 1 paddock. Ferrari is also repeatedly mentioned as a possible new employer. Scuderia driver Charles Leclerc has now commented on the speculation.
Ferrari actually extended team boss Fred Vasseur’s contract just a few months ago. Because of the poor sporting results, the name Christian Horner is now increasingly circulating in the rumor mill.
The long-time Red Bull team boss wants to return to Formula 1 with all his might after his involuntary departure from the Brause racing team. To Ferrari?
Charles Leclerc was confronted with the speculation in Austin on Thursday. “This is not something you want to read. We are fully focused on what we want to do,” said Leclerc in the media round in Austin.
“It’s not something I pay attention to – I just try to ignore it completely and concentrate on my work, and I think the team does that too. It’s never nice to hear things like that and see rumors like that circulating within the team.”
Leclerc on F1 rumors: “No truth to them”
Then the Ferrari driver became even clearer: “I don’t watch it between races because there’s no truth to it.”
The Monegasque emphasized that he wants to help Ferrari improve in the coming years.
“The reality is that as a team we are working extremely hard and we are all very united to get back to the top,” Leclerc added. “And what is then said is something I cannot prevent and we cannot control.”
Leclerc’s teammate Lewis Hamilton also reacted clearly to the Horner rumors. He doesn’t think signing Horner is a good idea. “I don’t think so,” said the record world champion briefly on a PK – someone had just asked whether it would be good for Ferrari to sign Horner as team boss. The 40-year-old continued that he would “not feed any rumors.”
