Is Bettina Jarasch risking a second defeat on Friedrichstrasse?

She checks and checks and checks. In a week at the latest, traffic senator Bettina Jarasch (53, Greens) must decide whether cars are allowed to roll through the closed Friedrichstrasse again, at least temporarily.

The administrative court considers the blocking after the end of the traffic attempt a year ago to be unlawful. If the Greens politician lodges a complaint, she could receive a second gossip from the Higher Administrative Court – shortly before the election in February!

Berlin’s ruler Franziska Giffey (44, SPD) had already called for the immediate implementation of the verdict.

At the same time, the so-called partial confiscation for the 500 meters in the Mitte district will run until mid-January – this would mean that this stretch of road (Leipziger to Französische Straße) would be taboo for cars forever. However, lawsuits are also very likely here.

It was agreed in the Senate that Jarasch would have to coordinate with Economics Senator Stephan Schwarz (57) and Building Senator Andreas Geisel (56, SPD).

Jarasch’s concept includes new options for crossing Friedrichstraße for delivery traffic and the relocation of the yellow cycle lanes to the parallel Charlottenstraße – it should become a one-way street.
