THEond, 27 Jan. (askanews) – It is difficult to document what happens in Iran where we talk about over 30 thousand deaths due to repression of protests by the regime. The journalists of Iran Internationala private Persian-language broadcaster based in London, say they want to do everything they can to “show the truth”, despite threats against them and their families. Tehran labeled it a “terrorist organization” in 2022like the BBC’s Persian-language channel. But since its birth, in 2017 its journalists say they “want to be the voice of truth, the voice of the Iranian people”.
Videos of the repression, stories and testimonies: this is how Iran International gives voice to the Iranian people
And in many in Tehran have found a way to access it anyway via satellite and private VPN codes even after the authorities imposed an unprecedented communications blackout on January 8th. They sent videos of the repression, retransmitted after verification; stories and audio or written testimonies describing the atrocities they witnessed.
“Sometimes I think: I’m so sad, I want to cry, but in a hidden place or when I’m alone at home. But I promised myself to be strong and, if I can, to help my people, this is part of my job, I should help”, says Farnoosh Faraji, senior journalist on the digital team.
Mass killings after protests in Iran: an estimated 30 thousand dead
“I am very sad about what is happening in Iran – he says Reza Mohaddes, editor-in-chief – for these mass killings. I thought the government would not tolerate the protests but I did not expect such a high number of killings, I am shocked by the brutality of the regime.”
“THEour goal? In a nutshell I would say, to be the voice of truth, the voice of the Iranian people, show the world the truth about what exactly Iran’s culture is, what the people are like… That’s not what the Islamic Republic shows to the people,” he adds. “We are all fighting to get rid of this brutal regime that took away the freedom of Iranians, that’s why we are not afraid. Iranians go to the streets and I think we are all on the same team. We are all fighting together to get rid of this brutal regime.”
