Iran denies involvement in drone attack on US military base

Iran’s representative to the United Nations said the country was not involved in a drone attack on a US military base on Sunday that killed three soldiers. A statement distributed by Iran’s state news agency Irna said that “Iran had nothing to do with the attack.”

Dozens of others were injured in the drone strike in the border area between Jordan, Syria and Iraq. It was the first time that US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the start of the war in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden previously said the attack was carried out by “radical Iranian-backed militant groups active in Syria and Iraq”, without naming a group or movement. An Islamic radical group active in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the drone strike.
