The Assen cultural institution DeFKa Research asks the municipality of Assen to include a permanent Culture Hub with studio functions in its new construction plans for the Havenkwartier.
DeFKa envisions a concept of a CultureHub, with visual art studios annex presentation space and laboratory, preferably in the building at Havenkade 2. ‘If possible combined with a public-oriented information debate centre’, the foundation said in a letter to the municipal council.
According to DeFKa, the ‘core mission’ of both is ‘innovative and reflective research’ into the contemporary relationship between art, culture, technology and society, in collaboration with artists, architects, scientists and educational institutes such as the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. ‘In line with the education cluster TechHub and Cicero and taking into account the regional vision and the ‘University of the North’ concept.’
