The senior trainer at the Mannheim gym was released until further notice. This was confirmed by the Badische Turner-Bund on SWR request.

“We released the trainer from her tasks at the Mannheim base until further notice,” confirmed Markus Benkeser, President of the Baden Turner Bund (BTB), to the SWR on request. The BTB finances the trainer’s position. “We did this primarily out of protection against our trainer. We emphasize that the presumption of innocence applies to them.”

Investigators of the State Criminal Police Office searched the premises at the gymnastics center in Mannheim on Wednesday. As a result, the German Turner Association (DTB) had released the former base manager and today’s young national coach Claudia Schunk for four weeks on Thursday (March 20th). Schunk, who headed the Mannheim base from 2006 to 2017, was accused of mental violence by several former and active gymnasts.

Season preparation without head coach

The performance gymnasts at the Mannheim base suddenly stand there without two trainers, who had recently coached. Because, according to SWR information, a national national coach Claudia Schunk is said to have been in the training center in Mannheim until a few weeks ago.

For the performance team of the Bundesliga gymnasts of the TG Mannheim around Janoah Müller and Silja Stöhr, this is a bitter setback in preparation for the new competition season, which started on April 26. The start of the season will take place in Mannheim and is also a qualification competition for the home European Championship in Leipzig.
