Investigation into a second possible drug dumping, this time in Smilde

Several barrels and jerry cans were left behind an empty restaurant on the Veenhoopsweg in Smilde last night. These were filled with an unknown liquid. The fire brigade tried to determine whether it was drug waste.

According to a bystander, there were six blue barrels behind the restaurant building, with several jerry cans next to them. Police officers then cordoned off the area to conduct further investigations and to avoid danger to passers-by.

In addition to the fire brigade, forensic investigation was also called in. A specialized company removed the barrels and jerry cans.

Last night’s discovery in Smilde is the second possible drug dumping of the day. At the end of the morning, similar blue barrels were found along the N381, between Beilen and Hoogersmilde. There were sixteen pieces. The barrels had been dumped in the ditch along the road. Here too, it has been investigated whether this actually concerns drug waste.
