Interior gives escort to PSOE negotiator with Puigdemont due to tension in the street

The trickle of attacks on socialist headquarters continues to occur every night and also during the investiture debate a PSOE deputy was attacked. The tension is increasing and the Ministry of the Interior is providing an escort for socialist leaders who have not had one since the time when ETA was active. This is the case of the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdan, as El Periódico de España has learned, from the Prensa Ibérica group. As confirmed by sources from Ferraz, the number three and visible face of the investiture negotiations with Carles Puigdemont, “has an escort again.” As a socialist councilor in his town of Milagro (Navarra), he spent twelve years with an escort.

The decision has been made by the department headed by Fernando Grande-Marlaska after the Police carried out a “risk assessment.” During his stay in Brussels to negotiate the investiture agreement with Junts, as this newspaper has learned, a group of people he even infiltrated his hotel and they had to be evicted by the Police.

In addition to the attacks on the headquarters and the protests in Ferraz, which last night once again ended with riots and several arrests, this Thursday a group of socialist deputies was threatened and attacked on the outskirts of Congress. One of them, the deputy for Teruel Herminio Sancho, was hit in the head by an egg. He was accompanied by the socialist deputies María Luisa García, Daniel Senderos and Vicent Sarrià. The events occurred, before the start of the plenary session, outside the security perimeter set up during these days by the security forces. The attackers were identified by the police and the PSOE will file the consequent complaint.

The deputies went to have breakfast at a bar near the Upper House at 7:30 a.m. and there they were identified by a group of protesters who, upon leaving, insulted them and threw eggs at them. It was after that moment that the agents deployed in the area had to act and escort them back to Congress to continue the investiture debate of Pedro Sánchez.

Some federations of the party, such as the PSPV, have been forced to hire private security to protect their regional headquarters. This Friday, precisely, the PSPV and Compromís have announced that they will file a complaint against the PP for inciting hatred after publishing a video on social networks that points to its deputies who voted in favor of the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. In the aforementioned video they are accused of having “voted yes to the breakup of Spain and inequality between Spaniards” and of being “complicit” in that breakup, while a carousel of photographs of the Valencian deputies of PSOE and Sumar is attached.
