the fans prepare to celebrate after the match against Parma. The club’s official award ceremony will arrive after the last home match of the season, against Verona
To relive the last images of an Inter championship you don’t have to go back that far. Just think back to what happened in 2024, on the occasion of the victory of the second star. That crazy joy illuminated the Milanese night of April 22nd two years ago, the day of Milan-Inter which ended 2-1, with goals from Acerbi and Thuram on one side and Tomori’s irrelevant goal in the 80th minute on the other, and which arithmetically handed the title to Simone Inzaghi’s team. The detail, not exactly marginal, is that on that occasion Inter played, yes at San Siro, but “away”. Basically with a stadium that is mostly red and black. Which is why the team’s immediate celebration didn’t last too long on the pitch and soon continued in the changing rooms, while the Nerazzurri people poured into the streets of the city.
Nerazzurri tide
—
It was an endless night, as – in the event of at least a draw against Parma – can happen again tonight. Two years ago the fans gathered partly in Piazza Castello, aiming to get to the Duomo, and partly directly at the foot of the cathedral. A real Nerazzurri tide. The same one who can find ourselves celebrating together tonight. Unlike the 2024 title, however, today Inter are playing at home (for real) and will do so in front of 75,000 fans who (again in the case of a scudetto) are unlikely to leave their seats at the usual time after the final whistle. The last title that Inter celebrated in front of their fans dates back 37 years ago: it was 28 May 1989 and on that day Trapattoni’s team won 2-1 against Maradona and Careca’s Napoli who had taken the lead at the Meazza. That Inter then managed to overturn everything thanks to a great shot by Berti deflected on goal by Fusi and an uncatchable free kick by Matthaeus. And it was a party. The club, however, has not organized anything for this day, given that there is still a possibility of having to postpone any type of celebration (that is, in the event that Parma were to win). In essence, if we were to see the streets of Milan invaded by a Nerazzurri wave again, it will be by the will of the fans themselves and that’s it, moved only by the desire to spontaneously meet up to celebrate together. Two years ago, Piazza del Duomo was invaded. There, there were thousands of Inter fans with the brand new celebratory shirts, with the number 20 in plain sight as well as the two stars, and banners reaffirming the historic achievement; above them, the fireworks illuminate a night to remember. Some stores, mainly those in the centre, also opened exceptionally at night.
First at San Siro
—
Today every Inter fan hopes to be able to relive the night of 22 April 2024. But first there will be a way and time to embrace the team immediately, after the match, there at home as has not happened for 37 years. The cradle of the first celebrations can once again be that Meazza which will then be ready to dress up on the weekend of Sunday 17 May, the day of Inter-Verona (37th of the championship), the last home match of the season and designated theater for the official awards ceremony, with the presentation of the medals and the trophy in the presence of the football institutions. And then? Once again everyone was in the streets of Milan, for the procession together with the team on the open-top bus up to the classic greeting from the terraces of Piazza del Duomo. This is an appointment (also) after the final of the Italian Cup which Chivu and all of Inter aim to enrich with the double trophy. Milan is getting ready.
