Inter return of “prodigal son” Lukaku perfect

After a lost year at Chelsea, Belgium international soccer striker Romelu Lukaku is returning to Inter Milan.

As both top clubs announced on Wednesday evening, Lukaku will be loaned out by the Blues to the Nerazzurri for the coming season. “Welcome back Rome,” Inter tweeted shortly.

Chelsea flop Lukaku arrived in Milan on Wednesday morning, some Tifosi received him at the airport. The massive striker had his picture taken with an Inter scarf. “I’m overjoyed to be here,” said Lukaku, who was received by Inter’s general manager Giuseppe Marotta. “The prodigal son is back,” commented “Gazzetta dello Sport”.

The 29-year-old Lukaku first underwent medical checks in Milan. According to media information, the Italian cup winner around national player Robin Gosens is loaning the Belgian out for eight million euros. Lukaku still has a contract with Chelsea, the club of team manager Thomas Tuchel, until 2026.

The striker only returned to the Blues last season after two years at Inter, where he had been under contract from 2011 to 2014. Chelsea paid the record sum of 113 million euros for the attacker, who quickly lost his place at Tuchel. Earlier this year, he made headlines with an unauthorized interview in which he openly gushed about Inter.
