Inter Milan took the lead in the championship race of the Italian Serie A again, at least until Sunday.

The defending champions won 4:2 (2:2) against newly promoted FC Empoli after trailing 2-0 at their home San Siro Stadium on the third-to-last matchday.

This puts Inter one point ahead of city rivals AC Milan, who can improve on Sunday at Hellas Verona (8:45 p.m.).

An own goal from Simone Romagnoli (40′), a brace from Lautaro Martinez (45’/64′) and a late goal from Alexis Sanchez (90’+4′) saved Inter from a slip. Empoli got off to a strong start with goals from Andrea Pinamonti (5th) and Kristjan Asllani (28th).

National player Robin Gosens was on the bench for 90 minutes at Inter.
