Inter, Lukaku-Barella: today the club is evaluating the fine

After the clash during the match in Genoa, the Inter forward and midfielder go further. And the club doesn’t want it to happen again

Today Inter will decide how to react to the case of the week, or rather to the tense Genoese stories between Romelu Lukaku and Nicolò Barella. He will evaluate and then issue a ruling because the entire management will be in Appiano and will be able, as always happens in these cases, to meet live with the staff. We don’t need to evaluate the case itself, considered by all to be serious, unpleasant, but not extremely serious, rather we need to find the right way to transform negative energy into a positive spirit. Or rather, make sure that similar episodes, in front of millions of viewers, never happen again. So is it more right to officially bash your dueling friends, after private reproaches, or to immediately turn the page and focus exclusively on Udinese and the looming Porto? In short, today Inter will decide whether to fine Romelu and Nicolò for their sparks during the first half against Sampdoria. That moment of unjustified nervousness indirectly weighed on the match: it weighed down the climate of the challenge, and never mind if already in the interval the Belgian and the blue had sat side by side to forget the skirmishes (with insults). During and after the match, the atmosphere in the locker room had already calmed down, even if Inzaghi didn’t really like the unedifying show. He told his players in Marassi’s belly, before repeating it to cameras and notebooks.

Beyond the sparks

Yesterday on social networks the maniacal analysis of every syllable of Lukaku continued: tired of the hysterical waving of his partner, the center forward exploded and his words were captured in full. “That’s not how you do it, don’t you dare…”, Rom yelled at him. And then the “enough” repeated three times plus the “vaffa” with an insult attached to his mother to close the curtain. It went well beyond what was permitted and both are sorry for this, but there is not the slightest aftermath in the group: in the end, everyone looked at the episode as a “fact of the field”. Yesterday the two performed a normal unloading session, without dwelling on what happened. From the bus trip from Genoa to the lunch eaten in Appiano, they did nothing different than usual: they were as close as two authentic companions. Although they don’t hang out off the pitch, they are really good friends and not since yesterday: it is no coincidence that Barella’s phone was one of the first to ring when Romelu was able to tell the Inter fans “yes, I’m going back to Milan”. And last summer, before taking turns in a Sardinian resort, the Belgian left his friend from Cagliari, who is a wine lover with the ambition of a sommelier, a bottle of Sassicaia Doc to toast his return. In short, there is no risk that the relationship between the two will change in nature, even if there is an underlying problem. Lukaku overflowed with words, but responded to his friend’s usual attitude. In fact, Barella’s greatest limitation lies precisely in those arms that mill too much to underline his disappointment with the others. This almost unconscious attitude at the beginning of the year also cost him a noisy bench against Bayern, and the precedents will weigh in the final decision on the fine. Watching the scene on TV, yesterday a very displeased Barella almost didn’t recognize himself: he’s the first to know that the biggest brake on his talent is right there. He’s aware that his being with exposed nerves needs to be fixed sooner or later. Regardless of the anger (and insults…) of the Roma friend or the possible corporate leniency.
