The ankle doesn’t improve and time is running out: the Dutchman risks missing Milan. Chivu prepares the alternative on the right wing

November 18 – 7.32pm – MILAN

The road leading to the derby for Denzel Dumfries is becoming increasingly uphill: Inter’s Dutch winger has not yet recovered from the ankle problem that stopped him playing for the national team, and today’s visit to Appiano suggests the utmost caution. Dumfries’ conditions will be monitored and evaluated day after day, but the time available is objectively limited: four training sessions remain between now and Sunday evening’s super match against Milan, and it is difficult to imagine that Chivu’s side can recover in such a short time.

THE SITUATION

Dumfries had suffered the first problems after Inter-Lazio, due to a sprained injury to his left ankle, but still left for Holland. The news of the precautionary stop had arrived right from the Oranje retreat, on the eve of the match against Poland last Friday: Dumfries had undergone the necessary tests – which encouraged optimism in view of Milan – and had returned to Italy. However, yesterday’s check-up, conducted by the Nerazzurri medical staff, outlined a more complicated picture than expected: the more hours that pass, the more a fair amount of pessimism sets in regarding the derby.

CARLOS WARMS UP

At this point, Carlos Augusto’s prices rise as a possible replacement for the Dutchman on the right, also given the disappointing performance of Luis Henrique, the Dumfries deputy who remained such only on paper. Chivu’s move in the match against Lazio was indicative in this sense: when the Inter coach called Dumfries back to the bench, he deployed the left-footed Carlos Augusto, adapting him on the right.
