Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is out for the time being. Just before making the 0-1 against PSV (1-2) he suffered a tear in the inner tube of his knee, but played on for a few minutes.

According to The Telegraph the Ajax player hired from Leipzig is out for six weeks. Ajax confirmed last night that the striker is not available for the time being. “It is very annoying that I will have to be sidelined for the foreseeable future,” Brobbey said on the club’s website. “I was comfortable in it, knew the goal well. It is now important for me to do everything I can to come back even stronger soon.”

On Sunday, Brobbey headed in the opening goal on a pass from Dusan Tadic. He was then immediately substituted. A week earlier he made two of the three hits against FC Utrecht.

The fact that the 19-year-old footballer is now missing is a huge damper for coach Erik ten Hag. Brobbey replaces Sebastian Haller who plays with Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup. According to the newspaper, it is questionable whether he will have Haller available on February 6, when the competition resumes with a home game against Heracles Almelo. The final of the Africa Cup will also be played that day, but Ivory Coast may have been eliminated earlier.
