Inge Ipenburg, known to the general public from Good Times Bad Times, believes that we should embrace asylum seekers a little more in our country. “We should see them as an opportunity,” she says.

The Netherlands is aging and so people from outside are needed to keep things running. That is precisely why we should show a little more appreciation for the asylum seekers in our country, says actress Inge Ipenburg. She calls into the Party calls for better housing facilities for these people, because, according to her, the current asylum seekers’ centers are inadequate.

Tuck away

When Inge is asked what the first priority of the new Prime Minister Rob Jetten should be, she answers: “I think we should see refugees and asylum seekers as an opportunity instead of as a problem. We have an enormous aging population. There is also a terrible shortage of staff in many places.”

She continues: “All kinds of young, healthy people come here who really want to be part of our society. But what do we do? We put them away.”

Stuffed

Inge wants more luxurious living facilities for asylum seekers. “We take away their lives for a number of years and let them live in uncertainty. They are crammed together in impossible housing. That is not good for people.”

She continues: “I think that if we start to realize that these people are also opportunities for our society, it will be much easier to separate that small group that causes a lot of nuisance.”

Healthcare costs

According to Inge, something also needs to be done about healthcare costs. “Another point is that I understand that healthcare costs are increasing and I understand that the deductible must increase. But why is it not progressive?”

She concludes: “Why not a lower personal contribution for the lowest incomes and a higher personal contribution for the higher incomes?”
