FIFA President Gianni Infantino has once again defended World Cup hosts Qatar against criticism of the human rights situation in the country.

“The progress cannot be denied,” said the Swiss in Vienna during a speech at the Congress of the European Football Union UEFA.

“We know that not everything is perfect. When there are new laws, there are always people who think they are smarter. It’s the same in all countries. Personally, I’m there to keep appealing to the authorities, the new ones to enforce laws.” He has “information” that this is also the case.

Qatar has been criticized for years because of the situation for foreign workers. Most recently, human rights organizations had clearly criticized the progress. The government of the emirate refers to the new legislation. Infantino recently caused irritation with a comparison between foreign workers and his parents as guest workers in Switzerland.
