IndyCar star Newgarden collects million bonus

US racing driver Josef Newgarden won a million dollars in bonus prize money with his third win of the season in the IndyCar series.

The Penske driver won in the Chevrolet ahead of Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson from Sweden and his compatriot Alexander Rossi (both Honda).

Newgarden earned the premium at the eighth round having already won on all three circuit types (road circuit, city circuit, oval circuit) this year. $500,000 will go to the driver and his team, with the other half going to two charities.

Before his success on Sunday at the Road America track, Newgarden (31) had won at the Texas Motor Speedway Oval in Fort Worth and the Long Beach Street Circuit.
