It’s a painful first season in the IndyCar Series for former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher.

During his accident at the start in St. Petersburg/Florida, “a piece of my wrist broke off, which I’m still struggling with,” said the 27-year-old in the Sky interview: “That means I actually get out of the car and am in pain, which is of course suboptimal.”

The son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher was eliminated in the first round on his debut at the beginning of March. “There will probably be an operation at the end of the year. Just to bring everything back together,” said Mick Schumacher: “It’s definitely tiring, and therefore the right hand has to do a little more at the moment.”

A few days ago, Schumacher had already spoken about the differences between an IndyCar and a Formula 1 car. It was “not necessarily more difficult, but much more strenuous,” he told RTL/ntv: “The car doesn’t have power steering, so it’s very mechanical and gives a direct translation of the driving style. It’s a nice feeling because you can feel directly what the car is doing.”

In the five races of the season so far, some of which have been driven on ovals, Schumacher has only achieved placements beyond the top 15. In the overall ranking he is in 24th place. The next stop is on May 9th in Indianapolis.
