The Swiss Mujinga Kambundji secured gold over 60 m at the World Indoor Championships for track and field athletes in Belgrade with a fabulous time. The World Cup third over 200 m from Doha set the best time for 24 years over this distance in 6.96 seconds.

Faster than Kambundji have historically only been record holder Irina Privalova of Russia (6.92) and US duo Gail Devers and Marion Jones (6.95 each), all in the 1990s.

Silver went to Mikiah Brisco of the USA (6.99) ahead of teammate Marybeth Sant-Price (7.04). Favorite Ewa Swoboda from Poland had to settle for fourth place.

Gina Lückenkemper was eliminated after a weak 7.33 seconds in the pre-run. “Sentence with x – that was probably nothing today. Somehow the tension was missing in the first few meters,” said the Vice European Champion over 100 m.

The German indoor champion Tatjana Pinto had to miss a start due to an injury.

In the women’s shot put, Sara Gambetta (18.16 m) and Katharina Maisch (17.83 m) in ninth and eleventh place missed the final of the top eight.

Gambetta was number six on the entry list with her 19.05 m. The title went to the favorite Auriol Dongmo from Portugal, European indoor champion of 2021, with 20.43 m.
