Indian Wells women: Halep forward, Gauff and Raducanu ko

Indian Wells: the Romanian tennis player wins in two sets against the American baby. The 2021 US Open champion loses to Martic

No gifts from Simona Halep for Cori Gauff’s 18th birthday. The Romanian tennis player plays an excellent match in the third round of Indian Wells and wins 6-3 6-4 against the birthday girl of the day: the American baby, number 17 in the world (Halep is 26), greets the home tournament. In the round of 16, Halep will face Sorana Cirstea: the number 27 of the WTA ranking wins in three sets against the Russian Anna Kalinskaya.

Swiatek goes, Raducanu out

Success also for the top seed number 3 of the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek: the Pole must recover against Clara Tauson, who wins the tie-break of the first set but then suffers the angry return of the opponent, good at closing losing only three games in the two final partials. Swiatek will now face Angelique Kerber in an interesting round of 16 match: the German gets rid of Kasatkina in just over an hour of play (6-2 6-1). Nothing to do, however, for Emma Raducanu: the British – champion of the US Open 2021 – is defeated by Petra Martic – number 79 in the world – in almost three hours of match (6-7 6-4 7-5). The Croatian will play against Samsonova.
