Income threshold for widows and widowers with children will be raised | Inland

From now on, widows and widowers with dependent children may earn more on top of their survivor’s pension. This has been decided by the federal council of ministers, reports Minister of Pensions Karine Lalieux (PS).

Currently, employees with dependent children are allowed to earn a maximum of 25,127 euros on an annual basis without the survivor’s pension being reduced. The limit is now increased by 5,000 euros per year per dependent child.

“We support survivors’ pension beneficiaries to encourage them to continue working after the painful loss of their loved one,” said Lalieux. 95% of the cases are women. The measure also applies to civil servants.

The survivor’s pension is awarded to widows and widowers who are at least 48.5 years old in 2022. The age limit will gradually be raised to 50 in 2025, the government has already decided. Below that age, widows and widowers are entitled to a transition allowance.
