The road manager subsequently took measures, including a matrix sign with an extra warning. “Because things seemed to be going well at the time, we removed the sign again. You also don’t want to place too many along the road, because it can become dangerous.”
After NH’s observation, Rijkswaterstaat agreed to ‘take stock’. “And we are going to double check with the navigation services,” she says, leaving open the possibility that motorists are being misled as a result.
Tips
Rijkswaterstaat advises motorists to pay close attention and not to blindly rely on navigation. “You must miss some signals if you make a mistake there,” said the spokesperson. The traffic manager reminds motorists to always respect solid white lines. “Don’t drive over it.”
The spokesperson has a tip for those who, despite all the instructions, mistakenly take the old exit. “It is not wise to turn there in any case. It is better to continue through the construction site and drive away from it at the end.”
