In two weeks, there will be clarity about carnival: ‘Keep courage’

In two weeks, the mayors hope to have more clarity about how carnival can be celebrated this year. This is apparent after the carnival meeting of several mayors and justice minister Dilan Yesilgöz. “Keep courage”, says Mayor Jack Mikkers of Den Bosch after the consultation against all carnival celebrants.

The mayors discussed Monday evening in which form carnival can be celebrated this year. The answer to that will take a while. “It is really too early to make a decision about a concrete scenario. We really have to work it out together,” said Minister Yesilgöz shortly after the consultation. The one and a half meter measure remains the biggest stumbling point.

“We have agreed that we will investigate different scenarios.” In the coming weeks, the carnival mayors will talk to local organizations, catering entrepreneurs and other mayors to look at different options together. “We will be in close contact about this in the coming weeks. In mid-February we will see which scenario is most realistic and how we can shape carnival,” says Yesilgöz.

According to Mayor Jack Mikkers of Den Bosch, we have to be creative this year. “There is understanding of the situation. In the coming weeks, we will now look at how we can continue with this and how we can use each other’s creativity to be able to celebrate a good carnival within the preconditions.” According to the mayor, a little flexibility is also part of carnival and we should invest in it. “I hope that in two weeks we will have the clarity that everyone expects.”

According to Mikkers, it is clear that carnival is impossible with the current basic measures, such as keeping one and a half meters away. “So that means that you have to look at what the preconditions are and whether you can perhaps achieve it with other measures, for example a better corona admission ticket.”

Especially in this corona time, Omroep Brabant wants to embrace, hold and cherish the feeling of carnival. Also this year, carnival will be a small fish at Omroep Brabant! Of course we do this within the applicable corona measures. Omroep Brabant asks carnival celebrants who participate in our activities to take these rules into account. That way we can make it a great party together.
