Colleagues in the Potsdam state parliament have waived, while the members of parliament in Berlin are insisting on their right: Starting this month, the allowances for the 147 people’s representatives will increase by EUR 125 to EUR 6,657 per month.
A surcharge of 1.9 percent – the benchmark is the development of average wages from 2019 to 2020.
Because of the pandemic, politicians in Brandenburg had refrained from an increase for the current year – for them it would have been 163 euros more per month because of the higher starting diet. Despite the increase in the capital, the Berlin diet is only in the lower midfield in a nationwide comparison.
According to BZ information, the new year should bring further changes for Berlin’s parliamentarians:
► Higher rents: Newly elected MPs in particular are complaining about the difficulty of finding space for affordable constituency offices. In future, you can rent for up to 1500 euros/gross (warm). But no magnificent offices, they have to be smaller than 100 m², and the billing has to be accurate to the cent – up to now there has been a flat rate of 1000 euros.
► More staff: Each member of parliament can now hire up to four employees (often students on an hourly basis) instead of three. For this, his monthly personnel resources increase from 4658 to a total of 6930 euros. The previous total corresponded to one full-time position (TdL salary group 3), in future it will be the equivalent of 1.5 full-time positions.

If parliamentarians can only follow parliamentary and committee meetings at home on the monitor because of the danger posed by Corona, they will not be fined in the future either. If you skip without an excuse, it is otherwise 50 or 100 euros per missed session.
