A 30-year-old man from Emmen has been sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for seven thefts, including burglaries. A week of this is conditional, in the hope that the probation service can still mean something for this incorrigible burglar.
The thirties had just completed a treatment for frequent offenders for two years in August last year. Apparently that did not help. Two weeks later he went on thievespad again.
Among other things, a declaration was made of burglaries in homes, a garage box and at a tennis club. The man was eventually recognized by agents on camera images. He also left a cigarette butt in a house with his DNA.
He has a hefty criminal record. And he is struggling with a drug addiction. The suspect’s lawyer argued for treatment. The public prosecutor saw no salvation in this and demanded that the man was sentenced to a prison sentence of a year and a half.
The probation service proposed a partly conditional prison sentence, hoping to still be able to guide the man. This was the reason for the court to convert one week of the demanded punishment into conditional.
