In line for a free vaccination during HPV Awareness Day: ‘Why not?’

You can get it for free for another year: the vaccination against HPV or the human papillovirus. But not everyone knows that or is aware of the risks of this virus. That’s why today is HPV Awareness Day.

In line for an HPV vaccination – NH News

This catch-up campaign makes it possible, if you have received an invitation, to get a vaccination without an appointment. This is only possible if you were born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2003.

NH News visited the GGD Kennemerland. What are the motivations of the young people in line? The fact that you have to pay about 150 euros for the injection from 2024 does not seem to be the most important thing. “I think it’s very important to be protected against so many types of cancer with such a simple injection, so why not?” says one of those waiting.

HPV – or human papillomavirus – can cause genital warts and, in the longer term, cancer of the penis, anus, labia, vagina, uterus, and mouth and throat. You are better protected with two vaccinations. Boys attendance was significantly higher during HPV Awareness Day. They have only been able to get the shot for a year, girls have been able to go since 2004.
