ROma, 14 needle. (askanews) – A huge fire is devastating the island of Vancouver, which is located opposite the big city of the Pacific coast of Canada Alarming the 20,000 inhabitants of a small town on the island, Port Alberni. The authorities asked residents to prepare for the evacuation, due to the gigantic fire 12 kilometers away, which has already burned more than 1,500 hectares in about 36 hours.
“I hate to see that this happens and it seems that it now happens more often, with all these torrid summers that we have never had before. And I believe that all this is due to climate change. You know, it is really, really serious,” explains a resident of Port Alberni, Russ Widdess.
“In reality I have been out of town to date and last night I followed the thing on Facebook, and it is incredible how quickly it has grown, so today we came here, to take a look – says another inhabitant, Ted Hagard – It is crazy how huge it is”.
At the other end of the country, on the Atlantic coast, some areas of Saint-Jean, a city of 224,000 inhabitants near Montréal, have been the subject of evacuation orders due to an increasingly threatening fire.
