The World Athletics Association (World Athletics) banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions due to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

In the statement made on the organization’s website, it was stated that athletes, personnel and referees from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competitions organized by the union.

It is reported that the decision will also apply to the upcoming World Athletics Championships, World Indoor Athletics Championships and World Walking Teams Championships. Accordingly, it was noted that the accreditations of Russian athletes and Belarusian athletes competing in the status of independent athletes for the said championships were canceled due to the penalty of their country.

Reminding that the membership of the Russian Athletic Federation to the union has been suspended since 2015 due to the doping scandal, it was stated that the status of the Belarusian Athletic Federation will be decided at the meeting to be held next week.
