In a packed Arena, Volendam striker Mühren suddenly went one-on-one with the goalkeeper: “Balen”

It was the perfect opportunity for FC Volendam to get a result against Ajax (2-0 loss). Branco van den Boomen unexpectedly headed the ball back, after which Robert Mühren was launched and went one-on-one with goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. The striker believes that he should have leveled his team afterwards, but failed to do so.

It seemed that Mühren had too much time to think about what he was going to do with the ball. “Yes, but that should not be an excuse,” says Mühren. After Mühren missed the chance, Damon Mirani also had a good opportunity from a header. The captain also saw his bet turned by Ramaj, after which FC Volendam’s chances were over. “Robert will definitely still score goals for us. It is also part of the life of a striker,” says coach Matthias Kohler.

Backwards

It was almost surprising that Volendam was still in the match, because FC Volendam had to go backwards a lot in the first half. Thanks to an excellent Mio Backhaus, they reached halftime with a score of 0-0. That gave the team visible confidence, after which the Volendam team was able to come out of its shell a bit after the break. Afterwards, trainer Matthias Kohler clings to that.

Next weekend the match against NEC Nijmegen is scheduled for FC Volendam. The kick-off in De Goffert is Sunday at 2:30 PM.
