Immobile wants to outdo Kane again

Former Dortmund player Ciro Immobile is heading into the second part of the goalscoring duel with Harry Kane with great ambition and self-confidence.

The 34-year-old Italian scored the winning goal for Lazio Rome in a 1-0 win against FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League three weeks ago with a converted penalty kick, thus overtaking the Englishman Kane as the match winner at the Stadio Olimpico.

That gives him a good feeling for the second leg of the round of 16 on Tuesday (9 p.m./Prime Video), said Immobile in the Allianz Arena. “I always try to compete with the best. And Kane is one of the best in our position. I will try to do my best.” Like Kane, he has four goals in seven games in the current competition.

“We believe in ourselves”

As Lazio captain, Immobile sees himself as having a special responsibility. “We have to show the same team unity as in the first leg,” warned the attacker, who wore the BVB jersey from 2014 to 2015. “We believe in ourselves!” In Rome they had Kane well under control, Immobile praised Lazio’s defender.

Coach Maurizio Sarri believes that his team will have to “suffer a lot” in Munich in order to make a surprising advance. “Bayern have an incredibly high level of quality in their team. We have to be brave here,” he said. You shouldn’t just defend your lead, but you also have to “put pinpricks forward.” Immobile should become Lazio’s trump card again.
