The championship was only a few seconds old when construction of the stage for the ceremony started on Stadhuisplein. The first builders got to work in the pouring rain.
Within a few minutes after the final whistle, the first trucks with stage components arrived at Stadhuisplein. The stage is being worked on there in a hurry. Fences are moved into place with shovels and the turnstiles are also ready.
“An hour ago we were just watching the match on our phone,” says one of the stage builders in the radio program Van Brabantse Bodem. He wears a PSV shirt under his work clothes. “Eventually you hear cheering and see fireworks above Stratumseind. Then you have to get to work.”
The team currently working will continue until 11 p.m. The second shift starts at 6 a.m. on Monday morning.
“Organizing a ceremony on Monday is not feasible. The decor still has to be put in, the sound still has to be installed. The entire stage weighs 50 tons. That is simply not possible.”
That is why the ceremony will take place next Tuesday from 2:30 PM.
