HSV professional can continue to dream of the World Cup

For Immanuel Pherai, the dream of taking part in the 2026 World Cup is not yet over. Without the HSV offensive player, Suriname lost direct qualification against Guatemala (1:3) on Tuesday – but the country can still secure participation in the World Cup via the playoffs.
In addition to Suriname, Bolivia, DR Congo, Iraq, Jamaica and New Caledonia are fighting in the playoff tournament for two places in the World Cup finals. The game will be played from March 23rd to 31st, 2026.
Pherai has so far played eleven international matches (one goal) for Suriname. The 24-year-old made two appearances in the World Cup qualification. Pherai was not called up for the most recent international matches and was missing from the national team due to injury in September and October.
