Something fluffy, something wonderfully soft, something possible to knit: that’s Iltalehti’s Halaus shirt!
Halaus is designed to be beginner-friendly, for example the very first sweater project.
The needle size is comfortable for a beginner knitter, as the recommended needles are size six or seven.
The sweater is knitted from Novita’s fluffy and soft, easy-to-knit Halaus yarn.
The yarn is 40 percent cotton, 35 percent superfine alpaca and 25 percent wool. The yarn is made by blowing alpaca and wool into a cotton mesh.
It’s easy to knit the sleeves to exactly the length you want. Timur Yilmaz

Model knitting:
Elastic knit as a closed knit: knit *k1, k1*, repeat from *–*.
Stockinette stitch in closed knit: knit all layers.
Plain knit: knit sts on the right side and purl on the wrong side.
Density: 14 sts and 19 rows of stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm.
Note! Check the density, because when knitting with Halaus yarn, your handwriting affects the density significantly. If necessary, change the stick size to a smaller or larger one. The knitting stretches and after steaming the density is approx. 13.5 s and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Structure:
The sweater is knitted from the bottom up.
First, the hem part is knitted as a closed knit, then the front and back pieces are knitted separately as a layer.
In the shoulder part, the pieces are combined again into a closed knit.
The sleeves are knitted from top to bottom with stitches picked up from the armhole.
A top view of the Halaus-knit helps to understand what kind of model it is. NOVITA
Abbreviations: s = stitch, row = layer, p = right side
If any part of the instructions starts to bother you, you can check from Novita knitting schoolhow are you doing. On the website, you will find detailed instructions on how to make left and right-leaning decreases, picking up stitches and finishing stitches by pulling over, among other things.
Hem
Cast on 140(156)172 sts. Knit 1 row, 1 row in stockinette stitch 8 cm = 14 rows. Knit stockinette stitch 23(24)25 cm = 42(44)46 rows.
At the beginning of the row, cast off 4(5)6 sts for the armhole. Knit 66(73)80 sts (= front piece), end 4(5)6 sts for the second armhole. Knit 66(73)80 sts (= back piece).
The upper parts of the front and back pieces
Turn the wrong side of the work towards you and knit 66(73)80 sts of the back piece purl. Turn the job. Continue with the loops of the back piece in plain knit (i.e. knit back and forth) and leave the sts of the front piece on the cable of the needle to wait. At the same time, start the narrowing of the armholes.
1st row (row): Knit 2, make an overcast decrease (pick up 1 st without knitting, knit 1, pull the picked up stitch over the knitted st), knit until there are 4 sts left on the row, knit 2 tog, knit 2 and turn the piece.
2nd row (row): Purl.
Repeat layers 1–2 another 3(4)5 times.
There are now 58(63)68 sts on the back piece. Knit 30 rows of plain knit with the stitches of the back piece. You have knitted the next row last. Cut the thread and leave a thread end of approx. 10 cm. The height of the armholes is approx. 21(22)23 cm measured from the finished loops of the armholes. Now leave the sts of the back piece on the cable of the needle waiting.
Work the 66(73)80 sts that are waiting for the front piece. Start with the layer on the wrong side and knit the front piece with the sleeves narrowed like the back piece, but leave the piece 3 rows shorter, i.e. knit 27 layers. You are the last to knit the op row. Do not cut the thread.
This is what the shoulder part looks like when finished. Timur Yilmaz
Shoulder part
Continue knitting with the yarn ball of the front piece. Take all the stitches back to the work and knit in stockinette stitch as in the hem. First knit the sts of the back piece and then the sts of the front piece, and at the same time place the stitch markers between the pieces. There are 116(126)136 sts in the work. Then start the shoulder decreases.
Decrease row: * Knit 1 row from the beginning of the back piece, make an overcast decrease, knit until there are 3 sts left on the back piece, knit 2 together, knit 1 row*, repeat from *–* on the front piece.
Repeat the narrowing row another 8(10)12 times. Knit the sts of the back piece again and repeat the decreases one last time. Do not knit the stitches of the front piece again. There are now 78(80)82 pages in the work.
Cast off the stitches. Cut the thread and pull it through the last st. With the help of a purlin needle, pass the end of the thread under the first finished loop and back through the last completed st to the wrong side of the work. Tighten and wrap the thread end.
Right sleeve
For the sleeve, pick up 58(62)66 sts from the edge of the right armhole using yarn. Pick up stitches with a circular needle. First, pick up 4(5)6 sts from the stitches finished on the arm, always 1 st from each stitch.
Then pick up 28(30)31 sts from the edge of the armhole of the back piece, always 3 sts per four layers, i.e. always pick up three times between each layer and leave every fourth layer in between. This way, the correct number of stitches will automatically be on the needle you pick up. If you don’t get the right number of stitches, pick up stitches more often or less frequently.
Pick up 2 sts from the shoulder stitches and 26(27)29 sts from the edge of the armhole of the front piece. Knit 2 sts from the armhole. The point where the layer changes is now here. Place a loop marker here. There are a total of 58(62)66 sts in the sleeve. Divide the sts from the circular needle evenly onto four double pointed needles and continue knitting as a closed knit.
Knit 5 layers in stockinette stitch and then start decreasing from the stitch marker.
Decrease row: Make an overcast decrease, knit until there are 2 sts left on the row, knit 2 tog.
Knit 5 intermediate layers and then repeat the decrease row. Repeat the decreases every 6th row another 4(5)6 times. You have now made the decreases a total of 6(7)8 times and there are 46(48)50 sts in the sleeve.
Continue in stocking stitch until the sleeve length is 43(44)45 cm or 7 cm shorter than the desired sleeve length. Repeat the decrease row one more time. There are now 44(46)48 sts in the sleeve.
Finally, knit 12 layers of rib knit. Finish the sts by knitting elastic.
Knit left sleeve the same, but as a mirror image.
Finish
Wrap up the thread ends.
Turn the sweater wrong side up. Moisten the sweater with a spray bottle. Lay out the knitwear on a flat surface to the dimensions shown in the pattern and let it dry overnight.
You can lightly steam the sweater with the heat of the wool, but be careful not to press the sweater with the iron. Use plenty of steam and move the iron approx. 1 cm above the knit.
