Iconic coach Mircea Lucescu is leaving Dynamo Kiev

After defeat against former club Shakhtar

Dynamo Kiev lost 0-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk on Friday afternoon and with it coach Mircea Lucescu and his current club lost to his former club. The trainer then announced his retirement from his position at the capital club. It marks the end of the 78-year-old’s career as head coach after more than four decades in professional football. “I would like to end it differently, but everything comes to an end – a football career and football itself and love and life,” explained the native of Bucharest, who began his head coaching career with the Romanian national team in 1981.

“I have dedicated 15 years to Ukrainian football,” Lucescu said after the game, which was his 118th with a points average of 1.81 with the Kievans. In 2020/21 he won the championship and cup double with Dynamo. In twelve years (573 games) at Shakhtar, he won eight championships and six cups, as well as the UEFA Cup triumph in 2009. Lucescu won further championship titles at Galatasaray and Besiktas in Turkey, where he also won the championship between 2017 and 2019 National team looked after.
