The former Minister of Culture and Sports Michael Iceta will be the new ambassador of Spain to the Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), based in Paris (France). Iceta will replace the former Minister of Culture in this way José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes. The appointment will be approved in the Council of Ministers this Tuesday, according to sources consulted by Servimedia.
Once Iceta is elected permanent ambassador delegate of Spain to UNESCO, the former leader of the PSC will renounce his role as deputy for Barcelona in the Congress of Deputies.
Iceta left the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez for this new mandate after being Minister of Culture and Sports between July 2021 and November 2023 and head of Territorial Policy and Public Function between January and July 2021. Spain has been in office for 15 days. the Executive Council of UNESCO until 2027, with more votes than the USA, France, Germany or the United Kingdom.
