Iceland and Italy separate draw – chances not used

After the debacle against France, Italy desperately needed a win. But opponents Iceland wanted the group leadership.

Next debacle averted: Italy’s footballers struggled to keep their chances of reaching the quarter-finals at the European Championship in England. Coach Milena Bertolini’s team drew 1-1 (0-1) against Iceland in the second group game on Thursday in Manchester. After the 1:5 bankruptcy in the first duel against France, Italy can still hope to progress.

Valentina Bergamaschi (62nd minute) equalized the early Icelandic lead through Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir (3rd).

In Group D, Italy is fourth with one point. In front of them are the Belgians, tied on points behind Iceland (two points) and France (three points). The decision will be made in the group next Monday (9 p.m. / live ticker on t-online) when Italy meets Belgium in Manchester. Iceland will play the French in parallel in Rotherham.
