The German skating team surprised at the World Cup in Calgary with two podiums in the mass start.

Fridtjof Petzold and Michelle Uhrig ran on the start of the winner on the night of Monday (January 27, 2025) in the mass start at the 1988 Olympic Oval.

Petzold ensures a bang

In 7: 50.48 minutes, Petzold only had to leave the Frenchman Timothy Loubineaud (7: 50.14) and celebrated the greatest success of his career as a second start in the mass start in the division A. The 27 -year -old Thuringian had never experienced a award ceremony in the World Cup on the podium before. Petzold showed his sixth place at the World Cup in Nagano at the end of November.

The mass start is also the chocolate side of Michelle. In Calgary, the 29-year-old Berliner went to third place behind the American Greta Myers and Chinese Jin Wenjing. It was her best season result.

Canada was a good pavement for the German runners. Already on the night of Friday to Saturday, the German champion Hendrik Dombek (Munich) had set a German record over 1500 m in 1: 43.73 minutes. A total of 14 athletes were the German ice skating and shorttrack community (DESG) in Canada at the start, and there were further success in the B group.
