The German U20 national team, which qualified early for the quarter-finals, ended the group phase at the Ice Hockey World Championship with a clear defeat.
The team of national coach Tobias Abstreiter lost 8-1 (0-2, 1-3, 0-3) to the Czech Republic in Halifax, Canada.
Veit Oswald (33rd) scored the goal for the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) on Saturday. The German team secured their place in the last eight on Friday (local time) with a 4-2 win over Austria.
Previously there had been a 2:11 swatter against record world champions Canada and a narrow defeat against Sweden (0:1).
“The Czechs are very, very good in all respects and are among the top nations in terms of running, technique and physical fitness,” Abkampfer told the “Sport Information Service” (SID) before the game: “For us, it’s this one To withstand the intensity and to play a good game again at the end of the preliminary round, which also counts as preparation for the quarter-finals.”
DEB coach Abkampfer had set the minimum goal to be one of the top eight teams before the tournament. Germany, who reached the quarter-finals at the last World Cup, will face Finland or the USA in the knockout stages. At the end of Group B, Finland meets the USA on Saturday at 22:00 CET.
