Because of a defeat against Japan, the German women’s national team played a better starting point at the Ice Hockey World Cup. A tough task is waiting in the quarter -finals.
In the fourth group game, the team of national coach Jeff Macleod lost 0: 1 (0: 0, 0: 1, 0: 0) and collected the second defeat. In the round of the top eight on Thursday (April 17th, 2025), the DEB team now meets the top favorites from the USA.
USA have already been world champion ten times
Rui Ukita (26th minute) scored the goal of the day for the Japanese women, who secured second place in Group B with nine points behind Sweden (12 points) and before the DEB selection (6). Germany, which had the co-round entry before the game, is now facing a mammoth task after the missed targeted group victory against the ten-time title holder and vice world champion of the previous year.
Since 2019, the tournament has been divided into a weaker and stronger group with ten teams. The first three teams in Group B reach the quarter -finals, for which all group A teams are already qualified. The German team led by captain Daria Gleißner in 2024 in Utica (USA) after four victories in the preliminary round, both the semi -finals and the game for fifth place and the promotion to Group A only missed.
